Skinperium in Bertrange is a centre for cosmetic dermatology and laser surgery conceived as a calm and precise environment reflecting the expertise of Dr Christine Dierickx. Developed within an existing building shell, the project focuses on the interior transformation into a space that combines clarity, functionality and a carefully balanced material palette.
The design approach is rooted in restraint and attention to detail. A composition of white tones, natural stone and wood defines the interior, creating a serene and welcoming atmosphere. Each element has been selected and detailed with care to reflect the precision associated with dermatological practice, while ensuring a coherent and refined spatial experience.
Sustainability is addressed through a consistent focus on resource efficiency and material responsibility. The project prioritises the use of local and durable materials and is guided by a zero-waste principle throughout the construction process. Through careful planning and monitoring, construction waste was significantly reduced, representing approximately 3% of the total material volume compared to typical figures of up to 30%.
One of the key challenges was to reconcile high aesthetic and functional requirements with a strict objective of minimising waste. Working within an existing structural shell also required precise coordination of all interior interventions while maintaining efficiency in material use and logistics.
To address these challenges, the project relied on detailed material planning and close collaboration with suppliers and contractors committed to reducing waste. Daily tracking and separation of materials on site ensured accountability and allowed continuous monitoring of waste reduction. Construction methods were optimised to limit offcuts and surplus, and particular attention was given to joinery and delivery processes to avoid unnecessary packaging and material loss. Reuse and recycling strategies were integrated wherever possible within the construction workflow.
Skinperium demonstrates how a carefully managed design and construction process can align spatial quality with responsible resource use. The project reflects a considered approach in which precision, material awareness and efficient execution contribute to a coherent and enduring architectural outcome.
