A sports park that nurtures pollinators, diverse vegetation, and nature-rich spaces for the community

The Leiwen sports field goes beyond conventional recreational design by placing biodiversity at the heart of its landscape. Surrounded by vineyards and steeped in the region’s wine heritage, the site benefits from a rich ecological context that the design seeks to enhance. Drawing inspiration from prairie and wildflower ecosystems, the park integrates low-maintenance vegetation that supports pollinators and encourages ecological resilience. Meandering pathways through wildflower fields create contemplative spaces that connect visitors with the natural surroundings, while newly introduced trees of varied sizes and seasonal colours enrich the park’s green structure and increase ecological diversity.
By reimagining the sports field as a multifunctional green space, the design strengthens habitat connectivity, bringing nature deeper into the community while harmonising with the surrounding vineyard landscape. This approach transforms a conventional recreational facility into a landscape where social interaction, recreation, and ecological health coexist, offering a model for future projects that integrate human activity with nature.
