Youth Hostel
Larochette, Luxembourg
Located within the park of Larochette, at the centre of Luxembourg, the youth centre is defined by its direct relationship with the surrounding landscape. This unique setting becomes the starting point of the project, shaping both its orientation and architectural expression.
The building is positioned to guide visitors through the site, encouraging movement between the forest and the park while establishing a clear connection to the communal road. Its volumes are composed as a series of simple forms, clad in larch, allowing the architecture to blend naturally into its wooded context.
A close relationship between interior and exterior defines the spatial experience. Large openings structure the façades and introduce a rhythm to the building, while framing views towards the surrounding nature. From within, these openings bring daylight deep into the spaces and create a constant visual connection to the landscape.
The project is conceived as a place for gathering, learning, and everyday use. Spaces are organised to support interaction while maintaining a strong sense of openness towards the outside. This connection to nature shapes both the atmosphere and the way the building is experienced.
Through a restrained architectural language and careful integration into its environment, the youth centre creates a balanced relationship between built form and landscape, offering a welcoming and connected place within the park.
